Dedicated to the memory of Jim

This site is a tribute to Jim. He is much loved and will always be remembered.

James Dolder our dad
Jim  was born on 30th October 1932 in Stepney, London a true Londoner born within the sound of the Bow Bells. Dad was one of 5 children. John, Jim Jaqueline, Janet and Peter. Jack our Jims dad was a docker and his mum Annie was in service.
World War 2 was in full swing During dads younger years and he and his brother and sister were evacuated to Beccles. This was when Jim first met Julia as children living on opposite sides of the street. They used to hang over the garden gate sticking their tongue at one another.
Jim left school at the age of 14 and worked for South Essex Waterworks . He wore a pink suit made out of curtains and earned 25 shillings a week. Jim did his National Service at RAF North Weald, Essex
Jim was a keen swimmer taking part as part of a diving team and he played water polo.
Jim visited Beccles to take part in the Regetta week and whilst there met up with Julia again and love flourished. In 1956 Jim and Julia married in Beccles and moved to Romford to live. They had 2 children Carol and Colin.
Jim worked for Ilford Ltd as a Junior Draughtsman from 1955 until the late 1960s when the family moved to Lowestoft where Jim worked for AK Diesel as a Draghtsman. He retired at the age of 65.
Whilst in Lowestoft Jim and Colin took up the sport of sub aqua diving.
Carol Married Tim and Colin married Lynn and three grandchildren Becky, James and Sammie  came along, much to the delight of Jim and Julia who spoilt them rotten as Grandparents do.
After retirement Jim and Julia launched themselves into activities at the Waveney Centre, Beccles where they enjoyed making teas for the older folk and they learnt to dance. They had a close circle of friends who regularly went to tea dances to hone their ballroom dancing skills.
Jim and Julia loved to cruise around the world with their friends Barbara and Dennis Franklin. Sadly Julia became ill with cancer and Jim nursed her until her death in 2005. After Julia passed away Barbara and Dennis and Jim continued cruising together.
About 8 years ago Jims memory began to fail and he was diagnosed with Alzheimers. Jim moved to Bungay to be near a town, his friends and family. He loved to go to meals with his family and play the game he loved most called Rumnicub.
Jim never complained, he never saw how his illness was affecting him. In the last few weeks Jim became very frail and when he fell ill with COVID19 he couldn’t fight it.
Jim died on 1st May 2020 at the age of 87 years and is now reunited with his wife Julia.
